Dr. Shelnutt is a Licensed Pharmacist and a Senior Toxicologist at CTEH® specializing in Risk Communication, Toxicology, Evaluating the Health Effects of Drug and Chemical Exposures, and Emergency Response. She evaluates clients’ needs and develops strategies to address each issue.
Dr. Shelnutt provides toxicological information to employees of clients and health-care workers following chemical exposures, as part of the CTEH® Worker Exposure Response Program (WERP®), and she is a responding toxicologist in the CTEH® Toxicology Emergency Response Program (TERP®). She manages a variety of projects, such as toxicological evaluations of chemical products, assessment of medical records for adverse drug reactions, and interpretation of drug and alcohol levels following an accident. She has many years of experience in explaining the health effects of drugs and chemicals to health professionals and the general public.
Managed numerous projects that required a detailed evaluation and critical review of the scientific and medical literature. Communicated information either in a written report, or in a presentation to stakeholders.
Researched and provided interpretation of drug and alcohol levels in people following an accident.
Responded to numerous worker exposure incidents involving a variety of chemicals including: diesel exhaust fumes, battery acid fumes, pesticides and other chemicals of concern.
Responded to chemical releases involving crude oil, gasoline, ethanol, and acids as part of the Toxicology Emergency Response Program.
