Educational and Professional Background
Dr. Hewitt specializes in analysis of health effects secondary to chemical and environmental exposures. He is board certified in both occupational medicine and general preventive medicine with extensive experience in toxicology and environmental epidemiology. As an occupational medicine physician he has considerable experience in treating work-related injuries and illnesses, providing case management for facilitation of early return to work of injured workers, and providing Independent Medical Examinations (IME's) regarding alleged health effects secondary to chemical exposures. He has completed a Masters of Public Health in epidemiology and has designed, coordinated, and published environmental epidemiology studies regarding chemical exposures and biomonitoring. As a medical officer with the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR), he provided consultation to both medical providers and the general public regarding chemical exposures. At CTEH, Dr. Hewitt oversees the Worker Exposure Response Program and provides consultation services in environmental epidemiology and general occupational and environmental medicine.
