CTEH® Director of Toxicology Dr. John Kind presented at the DRI Toxic Tort & Environmental Law Seminar February 9-10, 2012 in Miami Beach, Florida. Dr. Kind spoke February 9, 2012 on the following topic:
“What’s That Smell? Technologies and Strategies for Characterizing Odor Nuisance and Related Health Impacts and Resulting Legal Claims from Industrial Activities”
Odors can produce strong physical and psychological reactions in people; however, the true impact of odors on human health and enjoyment of life is still controversial. Dr. Kind’s presentation will cover the physiology of odor perception and its impacts on human health; the types of lawsuits and claims being filed; odor measurement technologies; and strategies for data collection to put odors in the proper context.
Dr. Kind is the leader of the CTEH® Odor Program and has comprehensive experience addressing odor concerns including community complaints, evaluation of relevant odor standards, and legal/regulatory disputes.
